Why Backup
Could you be held liable in the event of a disaster?
How would your business be affected if you suddenly
lost all your computer information? Can you possibly put a value
on your information? How many hours have you and your
employees spent in front of that screen entering information concerning accounting,
scheduling, clients, and communications. Imagine, for just a movement how your life would
change if you went in to work tomorrow and the hard drive that had ran flawlessly for
three years - quit. Thousands of businesses lose millions of dollars worth of information
to fire, power outage, theft, equipment failure, and even simple operator mistakes.
Studies show that nearly half the companies that lose
their data in a disaster never reopen. Most people can't or don't want to even imagine
that happening, but sooner or later it will happen!
Accidents do happen too, buildings burn, floods rise,
lightning strikes, tornadoes, thefts to mention a few. Humans make mistakes! Willful data
destruction, either by disgruntled workers or unknown vandals, is a fact of life that
requires high levels of security and rigorous backup procedures. Hackers can destroy or
corrupt data with unauthorized access to a computer system or by passing computer viruses.
The inadvertent deletion of data by authorized users is the most common reason for data
loss. Human error accounts for an estimated 90% of all data loss or corruption. Because of
the high prevalence of these incidents, a good backup system is measured by the
convenience of restoration and speed of retrieval, normally with single files.
You can get a new computer tomorrow. But, how long would it take you to
re-enter all the valuable business information (while continuing to run your business)
that your very livelihood depends on? Days? Weeks? Months? How long has to taken to enter
all that information so far?
If you have backup habits similar to the average the next several
weeks would be spent trying to recover from such a devastating loss. Most businesses don't
do proper backups - even those that have tape drives. Part of the reason for this is that
it takes time to perform these activities. And for most sole proprietorships and smaller
businesses, time is literally money.
Busy people often rush through backups without verifying them, or put them off until a
more convenient time. Many leave backup tapes in a drawer next to the computer where they
will be lost in the same catastrophe that destroys the computer itself. A
Offsite Backup
Service is an important part of a responsible information protection plan.
Your most valuable business asset will always be safe, even if your computers are not.
Your insurance company can replace your computers. Now, your information can be replaced
as well.
Please note, in an effort to keep costs reasonable, all drop offs and pick ups are scheduled.
